Recover Your GetTrusted Identity

New Phone and need to recover quickly and verify?

Having an identity that you can lose isn't much of an identity is it?

If you are out and about and break or lose your phone how would you recover? Well lets walk through how you would recover with GetTrusted and back to verifying yourself to trusted contacts.

When we created your identity we showed a QR code, and you set a pass phrase. We need that information to recover your identity, once you have it available lets get started.

To get started make sure you have the application installed

You will be greeted with this screen. Lets click Recover Existing Identity.

We have a few options we can recover with. If you remember at identity creatiion we showed the recovery QR code and said we had a few options.

Print, Copy, or Do Nothing?

If you did nothing, you need your old device and you can go into settings, and then recovery data and print or copy your recovery data.

If you selected Print, select "Scan QR Code"

If you copied the data to a password manager or other safe storage. Select "Enter recovery data manually".

After you have Scanned the QR code or manually input the data you will arrive at this point. Here is where you need to remember your passphrase when you first setup your identity.

Enter your pass phrase and once again select if you want biometrics to protect access to your identity keys. Through recovery and creation is the only time we can set this property.

Click Recover My Identity and in the background your identity will be recreated with new device certificates and keys following the recovery workflow.

After you have successfully recovered your identity you will be asked to review the devices associated with your identity. The top identity will be the current device and you can not revoke it.

After you have selected the device you wish to revoke you can click revoke you can add an optional reason. Then click Revoke Certificate.

If your phone was lost or stolen, at this point your identity can not be used from that device. Revocation is immediate effect. Your trust contacts would not be affected.

Once you have revoked any necessary devices and are happy with the devices listed you can scroll to the bottom and continue.

You can always see what devices are associated with your identity and revoke them by heading to Settings -> Device Management.

Now you can create how you will show up with your first persona. We believe that all humans have multiple personas and share them in different contexts So we allow multiple personas so you can add more later.

Choose if you want a photo or not, you can take a picture or upload an existing one, or choose to not have one and we will just use your initials.

Enter your name, this is of your choosing should it be your legal name, or your anonymous handle. This is the only required field, everything else is optional including professional information should you choose to include it.

This is the persona you will share with others so make it useful to them, you will also be able to edit and add additional items to your persona in the edit screens.

If you have a premium GetTrusted subscription or a business subscriber this step will recover from a last backup if enabled and restore your personas and contacts.

You are back to recovered and can start adding your trusted contacts back.
